Join CLT in our mission to preserve Charlestown’s open space and natural character for the lasting benefit of our community. The land trust preserves and protects the distinctive character of our local area through acquisition and management of open space.
Fall is just around the corner in Charlestown. As the season shifts, it’s a wonderful time to enjoy our local landscapes—whether walking in the woods, spending time by our ponds and beaches, or gathering at community events. Here’s a look at what’s been happening at CLT and what’s coming up next.
Thank you to everyone who joined us last month for a guided hike at Mill Pond Preserve to celebrate the beginning of #LandTrustDays, a statewide celebration organized by the Rhode Island Land Trust Council. Led by CLT Board members, this walk explored the preserve’s fascinating history and its unique ecology.
We also wrapped up the season last month at the Charlestown Farmers’ Market by drawing the winning raffle ticket for “Anadromous Ascension III,” a wooden diorama donated by artisan Brian O’Connor of South County Paddles. Congratulations to Tiffany, our lucky winner, and many thanks to Brian for sharing his artistry in support of CLT!
Looking ahead, #LandTrustDays continues through October 26th, with many more opportunities to get outside this fall—hosted by CLT and land trusts across Rhode Island. We hope you’ll join us for upcoming events, including a Mushroom Walk, a Plant and Insect Walk, and of course, our beloved S’mores Social (see more info below!)
We’re also looking forward to our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 8th at 6pm at Kettle Pond Visitor Center. This special evening is open to all members, supporters, and friends, and will include reflections on the past year, election of directors to our Board, and a look at what’s ahead for CLT.
We’re honored to welcome Ana Flores as this year’s keynote speaker at our Annual Meeting. Ana is a celebrated ecological artist, Charlestown resident, and creator of Poetry of the Wild, a project that has traveled across the U.S. and overseas to connect people with their surrounding landscapes. We can’t wait for Ana to share her work and perspective with us.
As always, our volunteer Board continues working hard to advance our mission—stewarding lands, working on acquisition projects, maintaining trails (and blazing new ones!), and creating programs that connect people to natural places in Charlestown.
There is so much to celebrate this season, and we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming walk, gathering, or at our Annual Meeting. Thank you for being a part of this work. Your support allows us to continue preserving and protecting what we all love.
With gratitude,
All of us here at CLT
