March at Charlestown Land Trust 🌱

Spring is around the corner, and we’re looking forward to another great month of events at CLT! A big thank you to Wenley Ferguson from Save The Bay for her insightful February presentation on salt marsh restoration in Charlestown—and to all of you who joined us. We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect as a community and learn together.

This month, we’re excited to continue our Winter Speaker Series with a talk from Brian O’Connor and Paul Pezza, founding members of Protect RI Brook Trout. We’re also hosting a guided walk at Mill Pond with CLT President Bill McCusker, and teaming up with the Wood-Pawcatuck Wild and Scenic Rivers Stewardship Council to present a screening of Illuminated Minds Media’s River Herring Migration Series, shown in two parts. We hope you’ll join us as we welcome the changing season!

Winter Speaker Series: Protect RI Brook Trout

Join us for another installment of our 2025 Winter Speaker Series! We’re thrilled to welcome Brian O’Connor and Paul Pezza, founding members of Protect RI Brook Trout.

📅 Date: Wednesday, March 26, 2025
🕒 Time: 6pm

Brian and Paul’s presentation will focus on the urgent need to protect Rhode Island’s threatened wild brook trout populations. Once abundant, these iconic fish now face numerous threats, including habitat degradation, warming waters, outdated dams, and competition from invasive trout species. Learn about ongoing and proposed conservation efforts aimed at preserving brook trout and the cold-water ecosystems they depend on. Brian and Paul bring decades of outdoor experience and advocacy to this discussion, offering insight into the challenges and solutions for safeguarding Rhode Island’s only native wild salmonid.
